Mad India , Day 1. Part 2 with a Vengeance

So with the people above the gym waiting to sing, I ran back to my room to grab mics and stuff. On the way back to my stay I heard a bunch of people cheering and loud drums so i took a left into one of the skinny street lanes and came up on wedding ceremony in progress, the band was nuts, all drums with a keyboard plugged into megaphone on wheels. So I got my stuff and returned and recorded a bunch of groups including this wicked old dude in the picture below who wrote the songs and acted out all the words. Coming to India i thought there was gonna be a majority of Buddist, but in Dharvari it’s pretty obvious that Christianity rules, there’s Jesus paintings and Stickers everywhere. And half the traditional songs i recorded are about Jesus. Anyways, after recording we had lunch which was so great, but what topped it off was my man Muhammad djing the lunch, blasting Vengaboys and Marakhi Dance hits way too loud. I guess from watching other DJ’s, Muhammad picked up about turning the knob’s to fix the EQ etc but he takes it to a new level, if there’s a knob on the mixer he turns it. After lunch he took to see the village’s sound system which is super massive. Koliwada gets down. Also today you can see in the streets that the decorations for Holi are starting to be put up.

Paulu Koli and Inson Maxi Koli

P.S. I have so many pictures i’m gonna have to make a photo page for all of them because it takes way to long to upload them here.

  2. jo paul its amazing what you are publishing, i’m from germnay and im studying in australia since june. like you i had no contact to the eastern culture at all and now im here in australia the western capital of the east. its so amazing to get in contact with all these indian studnets over here and especially all the hong kong and taiwan chinese, and real chinese there are so many south koreans and i ask them how they deal with the border between north and south as we had it in germany. more than this im hanging out with lots of japanese, who offer me a completely new dj and sound world. its all about experimental and alternative sound in this world.
i was listening to dance music since i was 14 or sthg but this 3/4 year in australia introduced me to so much more “eastern music dance styles” its really unbelievable.
however there is always a bad side on all these things. i’ve noticed that most of the culturese over here stick to each other, all the germans ive met hardly dont know any aussies at all, the same the other way around. dame shit with the asians and the indians. this is such a multi cultural country, however they dont really take the advantage out of it.
I wish you all the best
    Daniel

  3. yeh dude, you said like fifty countries in like three sentences which is crazy but i feel you. we set up a rooftop party on the top of this building in Koliwada last night and it was a mindcurl experience for everyone, 7pm -10pm but everyone left sweated out and everyone was sober!!!! crazy experience like really, people who haven]t danced for like 3-4 years danced all night last night. but I got mad hate from the elders for not playing all hindi tracks, so yeah same thing. also though i recorded my set too but Sound studio locked up, so if anyone knows how to see hidden files on mac:s after 10.4.11 without major scripting let me know. becuase its been crashed on my desktop since last night and the .caf file is MIA. Nerds shout at me.
