TAME IMPALA
Tame Impala are three young psychedelic dudes from Perth. My new friend Ryan, who plays in another sweet Perth band who just moved to Sydney called Canyons, gave me this track the other day.
It’s a cover of a trip hop song that was huge in Australia and Europe in the late 90’s, Blue Boy’s Remember Me. The song sampled Marlena Shaw’s Woman of the Ghetto and is now only heard in lame uninspired mash ups, often featuring ODB acapellas and titled something like “Remember Shimmy” or whatever.
Anyway Tame Impala covered it and shouldn’t be this goddam good. I don’t know who records their shit but it sounds perfect.
The fairly new and completely awesome label A Hole in the Sky are gonna put out Tame Impala’s first release mad soon. If you haven’t heard anything from the label yet I highly recommend the Fred Cherry/The Templates split 10″ and The Canyons 12″, both available over at Turntable Lab.
Oh and here’s something big and exclusive. You know, for the fans…
