block party recap
Wow I think this was all we hoped it could possibly be…. despite or maybe because of it being 10 million degrees in the shade, this was just SO MUCH FUN. Lets see, aside from the music,

we had a Elmo in the house - I could make this entire post about that dude, his exploits were legendary in and out of the costume. As Nick V said, Sean Agnew deserves a fucking medal. I’ll get back to him later.

the perfect amount of food to last the entire day (that’d be 400 hamburgers, 96 veggie burgers, 396 hot dogs and 4 watermelons for those counting) and Lenny the mf’ing man on the grill. Another one that deserves a medal. Aside from smoking jays with DJA in between flipping burgers, dude did not take a single break all day.

a Dunk Tank which was the life of the kids party until things got a lil crowded in there and the plexiglass front smashed out. Oops thats what we get for letting the youth run wild.

double dutch

hula hoops

kiddie pools

basketball court - most of the time it was full, dudes (and quite a few ladies) didnt even flinch at the heat.

endless amounts of hydration (thanks to Redbull, Vitamin Water, Smart Water and Function Drinks)

squirt guns

misting fans

awesome Archie watermelon t-shirts from Mishka (sorry there are absolutely NONE of these left- Im lucky I grabbed one when I did)

and squiggly dudes on the roof.

Our 2 block area was a straight free for all -

lil kids

teens (when the heck was this going down?)

japanese uber space dudes

regular folks

parents

old guys

the Mad Decent baby - were all doing whatever the hell they pleased. At the height of the party there was even some dude walking around selling glass pieces - I made him give me one as a levy tax for not throwing his poaching ass out of the party.
Openers Soul Travellers and Dances With White Girls unfortunately couldnt play so MD workhorses DJA and Dirty South Joe held it down until

Dave Nada & Matt Nordstrom’s debuted their Nadastrom group - they played like their whole upcoming EP and had Wes sweating.

Flosstradamus (sorry couldnt find a pic of Curt) followed up with the set that really put things in perspective - steppers, hip hop classics (Summertime!!), the Cha Cha Slide- just that block party shit!

Then Da Transformers (Octamis Prime & King Drew) brought it back up and

the Brick Bandits (Tim Dolla, Tameil, Sega, Dirty South Joe, Mike V) proceeded to smash the place with a 2 hour mega-set that peaked with

Mz Streamz killing it with the synchronized dancers. Click here for the video
Whew, by the time Kenny Meez got on (sorry can’t find a picture because dude teleported straight from Jamaica drinking guinness all day), the mood was perfect for some slow wine bashment and he ran it with tons of exclusives and all around good tunes.

Blaqstarr came on to close out the place, had the crowd eating out of his hand durrrrrty

and then Rye Rye popped up on the speaker stack and shut em down. HOLY CHIT it was great.

Back to Elmo. I think his hug quotient was way over 300

humidity index was around 200% (kids woulda definitely been afraid of grizzle without the helmet on)

freaking on the dancefloor numbers were up there
shit Elmo was all over the damn place! Check out this segue of freaking somebody’s mom to fighting 10 year old to taggin his name on the street to 3 man crowd surf.
more from Shane Mccauley:

more from Josh Sisk:

thanks to everybody who DJ’ed and performed - yall KILLED it seriously, all the people that came out, all the neighbors for signing on, the cops for being cool and letting us do whatever we wanted (the blunt shrapnel in the garage alone was enough to fill a giant garbage can), all the folks who complied with our “cups only” policy, all the people that came in from out of town, and especially everybody who helped clean up at the end- that was amazing.
Extra thanks to all the camera crews in the house- Shane Mccauley (most of the ones up there without credit), Josh Sisk, Shane & Duey (wait till we get all that video edited out!), the folks I grabbed off flicker, and everybody else who was there. We might need to do a round 2 of photos, so put your links in the comments section please!
And EXTRA EXTRA thanks to everybody behind the scenes that made this happen: LENNY on the grill, DJA, Nick The V, Dirty South Joe, Sean Agnew, Cullen, Kevin, John Hiltz and crew, Mike Jones and Mishka, Jay and the smart/vitamin water dudes (y’all were the cavalry), red bull crew, snitch the turtle, big azz speakerz, costco, walmart tents, the secret keg, and white minivan. No thanks to the dunk tank dude who nearly ripped my head off when he saw that broken plexi glass (”This is just a part time job! I’m a cop! And I could have you all thrown out of here! I want to smash somebody’s face in right now!” - literal quote). But like that friendly neighbor mom said- “if a little broken plexi glass is the worst thing that happened, you guys are doing great!”
My fingers are about to fall off so apologies if I missed anybody but I cant do this anymore. SEE YALL NEXT YEAR!
