pitti

tonight my good friend Adriana Pittigliani passed away just a few block from where im working.. she had cancer for a few months that we found out was terminal and suddenly tonight she passed away. Adriana was a huge influence on me and the work i do in brazil, she was selfless and she spent the last couple of years managing sany pitbull and even recently Dj marlboro… she was the first person to take the artists outside of brazil to act as a tour manager for sany and sandrinho and created carioca funk clube to help artist finally publish their own music and to give these artist some autonomy, she worked in the documentary by helping us put together parties in prazere and in centro and connected some of us with the DJs and artists, i would not have met Sany Pitbull (a huge influence on me and the film) if it wasnt for Pitti… she also curated the last release on flaming hot that promoted these new kids in rio get exposure in the US. she also built a studio inside her APt here in flamengo to help these artists to stay up with music and push there sounds forward… i cant even believe she died and i cant tell u how important she was.. half the fotos that come from the bailes or from the characters in Rio were taken by Pitti or her photographers that she taught….. this city lost something it can never replace….

i didnt want to put any music in this post.. but this is a track by gilberto gil that pitti gave me a coupla of years back or her ipod and she told me it be cool to use it in a song one day, its in english and it never thought it meant anything til now

  7. oh my gosh, such bad news. i remember sitting in a berlin cafe with her. she passing us new stuff from sany and sandrinho, the whole funk thing had just started over here - must have been 2004.
she was one of the first ones explaining the dynamics of the music to us, getting us all hyped. she spoke with so much love. all our RESPECT . LOVE and PEACE.

  8. Wow this is such a shock! I had no idea that she was this sick. Adriana really was our person down in Rio who provided endless valuable information in how to get things done in the Baile Funk scene. It was with her guidance and with the validity of CFC that a lot of artists allowed us to us there music for our release. I never meet her but from our phone conversations I could tell that she was a head strong woman who new what she wanted and new how to get it. It was her drive and her willingness to work hard when we needed her to that really impressed me. She was really one of the first people in the Funk scene that understood what Flamin Hotz was trying to do in showing the many different shades of Baile funk while also explaining the music and translating it for a bigger appeal. She really loved the idea and it was with her backing that we were able to say to small producers and new comers that you will have a track on a CD next to the biggest names in the scene (Sany, Bass Comando). It was our shared excitement of showcasing all of the various sides of the scene that we were able to build this CD and create such a dope project. Her input, her excitement, her hard work, her understanding, her commitment will all be missed.

    Rest in Peace

  9. Absolutely shocking and completely unexpected. I was actually the one who curated the Flamin Hotz CD — helping Casi select tracks from the ones I had acquired through direct contact with artists and sifting through the CFC tracks that Adriana provided us. She could be a pain to deal with — “ASAP stands for As Slow As Possible” she once told me laughingly about her imprint — but she always did top-notch work. The photos she took of the CFC artists are stunning and it was a pleasure to translate some of the bios she wrote — she wrote very lovely Portuguese.

  10. ……this is really a big shock!
we was stayin last year for 10 days in pitti’s apt. in flamengo.
no one told us, that she had cancer or that she was sick.
it’s really hard to write down our feelings..
she was a very nice, cool, strong and smart person.
we will miss u adriana (pitti).
    rest in peace

  11. pitti rest in peace
this is some horrible news… just emailed with her a couple of weeks ago and had no idea that she was sick… she was definitely a big force for funk and of the people i know in rio she seemed to be the first one to see the full potential of baile funk from a few years back, and she had a vision of brazilian artists one day having proper releases and shows outside of rio back when it was all total chaos and seemed nearly impossible. and thats something that has happened in the past couple of years and im sure she was responsible in a lot of ways so much respect for all her work

  12. Pitti,

  13. Adriana,
i am writing only now cause i didin´t get the sad message until now. i remember you getting me involved in the baile funk scene four years ago. you were managing mc catra at that time, it was the time of the villa mimosa funks and so on. i was fascinated by your energy, your passion and stubborness (we had a lot of fights). i remember you coming to munich, living in my appartment, making friends with the barkeepers downstairs (”cheap beer you know”) and after one week you knew almost everyone important in the munich club scene. brilliant. you came back to munich with sandrinho a few months later. we had big potatoe knödels in bavarian restaurants and a good gig at the gomma party. in the end of 2007 and in the beginning of 2008 we had some cola light and many cigarettes in your appartment and you`ve been still and more than ever the queen behind the scenes of baile funk, we`ve been a few times at the cantagalo baile funk and sometimes you said you have to cut down a little bit and you have to quit smoking and stuff because you are getting older. you never talked about the real reasons, you didn’t want to give up and you didn’t want to let the cancer rule your life. you are so stubborn! Sorry for not being with you as much as i could have been. sorry for saying this words over a damn blog and not personally.
we will miss you. rio will not be same without you.
