SO, Dirty South Joe’s excellent “Told not Sold” podcast was supposed to come out last Tuesday - but .mac is officially no more as of last week and our whole server fell apart. We’re back though, and Joe’s mix is FINALLY available on iTunes

If you choose to download the podcast without subscribing (we really would rather you subscribe though) you just have to go to maddecent.libsyn.com

We’ve also had some questions regarding how to get our video podcasts to show up on an iPhone or iPod Touch.  As far as I know, the best bet is to download the video (they are in .mp4 format already) from the above link and put it in your Movies library (instead of the ‘Podcasts’ library) - this will allow you to sync them onto your iPhone/Touch the way you would any other .mp4 that is in that library.

TOLD NOT SOLD PT 1: THE ROOTS OF BALTIMORE CLUB

This is the first in a series of mixes intending to eventually cover every notable release in the history of the Baltimore Club sound. The combination of New York and Chicago house, as well as UK breakbeat/rave era tunes from the late ’80s and early ’90s, provided the sound’s genesis. American labels like Strictly Rhythm and Dancemania, along with UK imprints such as Blapps! and Shut Up & Dance, found a home in every soon to be Club King’s crates, and bits and pieces of what came to be known as Baltimore Club can be heard throughout their grooves. For an absolutely CRUCIAL play by play of some of the records that started the scene, DJ Technics has compiled a list (http://www.baltimoreclubtracks.com/history.htm)

This particular mix is by no means comprehensive. I picked these out more or less because of the similarities between them. The Godfather, Scottie B, called it “proper” and that’s all that matters to me! It was recorded all the way live on two turntables and Serato with no headphones, cuz that’s how we do it at Ol’ Head headquarters. Lots of pops and crackles in the cuts, but I tend to think it gives it a “time capsule” sort of appeal.
