“if u go to the caribean u probably in like jamaica or bahamas or PR or somewhere thas relatively normal.. but sometimes u might end up steppn of a boat and hearin people speaking some weird german and trying to braid your hair….. thas when u realized ur in st maarten, curacao, suriname or one of the other netherland antilles.. those are wierd places for sure. recently i was clubbin with atrak in amsterdam and hangin out with some of the kids in holland.. its a wierd mix in the clubs.. all the girls ook like they are chinese african indonesian dutch martian and are hot and everyone knows the lyrics to house tracks and lil wayne.. its a special place. but they island kids there wer makin wierd music for a coupla years.. i had to inspect this stuff.. seems back in the day in curacao or N.A. this DJ mortje.. was playin reggae inst at 45 and gettin parties turned out .. then later on the sound moved back to holland and kids renamed it bubblin’… now they puttin anythign that represnts in amsterdam under these drums.. paul johson - check, tiesto- check, ciara - check, wierd polka - check, jumpstep - hell yeah.. ok so basically this is a mad decent radio made in heaven.. big up infatda sound form AMsterdam and laid back luke for the help and big ups any of my surinamese, aruban, bonairian, curacaoian, saba, sint eustatians and st maartians in the buildin”

$3 ppd part four: the connie dungs
connie dungs were a pop punk band from ashland, kentucky who put out a ton of records but never toured. literally I dont think I ever heard of these guys ever showing up to any show ever. they were are part of the trend with poppunk bands singing with the bizarre “buzzing” voice thing. although this band released 7″s and CDs every 2 months or so, the one that always stood out sonically with me and my friends was the split with operation cliff clavin. (thanks ed fields at audiotrax in ashland ky!)

We got a new mix in from Sujinho of the NOSSA crew today. It is a complete BAAANNNGGGEERRRR… While I don’t think I met Suji while I was there, me and Blaqstarr went out partying with the nossa crew, Mapei and a bunch of rowdy Swedes in Miami last WMC. $3 ppd part three: cool beans flexi
flexis are amazing. i’ve heard so many legends about the company you pressed them (in clearwater, fl - aka scientologyland (kind of like tomorrowland & epcot)) - rumors like : they are crazy christians who demand a lyric sheet & won’t press your record if they don’t like the lyrics (and didnt most people just send fake lyrics? too funny) - whatever is true, they stopped making these things in 2000.
this is a flexi from an issue of cool beans, from san francisco. my copy has a huge indention in it, so the first part of the record doesnt play at all. for that reason, I just recorded side a and side b in as much as I could get to play, and put it in one file. I have absolutely nothing to scan, unless you enjoy looking at a square solid black piece of whatever they made these things out of (i heard some bands in russia used old x rays? ill.) somebody post some links in the comments to knowledge jewels!

left out was a band that I played bass for from like 96-00 or so - we released one 7″ and CD on Better Days Records (louisville) and one CD on Plan-It-X Records (bloomington IN)
somehow I only have one 7″ and one test pressing 7″, with no front cover. i think i’m going to order one from plan it x for $3 (its really $3 straight from them - its actually lost value in 10 years, i wonder why)

$3 ppd part one: operation: cliff clavin
this is dja aka doc money aka heavy d aka captain kentucky (no one has ever called me that except diplo) - I’ve got some great punk 7″’s from like 92-00 and I wanted to start sharing them here with a thing called $3 ppd.
you may know my dude frank as franki chan, of iheartcomix, check yo ponytail, etc. but he is forever “frankie the drummer from occ” to me. operation: cliff clavin were formed in my hometown and went on to have over 9,000 members until they broke up and started over 9,000 other bands, but at one point they were drummed by non other than our friend franklin. here are two ‘first songs’ off of two seperate 7″s, one a split with connie dungs (kentucky punk) and one a split with I Farm (ny). this band & the label that they ran, plan it x, (who my band had a release on) had an enormous influence on my life (to say the least) when i was a kid
